I would like speak in support of the simple, thin interface style
Steve promotes, and suggest that a Python library built on top of the
thin layer is the appropriate place to provide functions that
translate lists of pairs into multiple calls to functions defined on
the language boundary.
Such was my suggestion. Sorry if I failed to make that clear.
